I have to admit that it doesn't sound a lot different from IM, at least Twitter doesn't. But I'm not at my computer all the time and don't use mobile text or Internet at this time, so the advantages of this as a realtime communication seem limited. Micro-"blog" is the concept I must keep in my head, I guess.

I am intrigued by the little headless critter at the posterous. Looks loike a cross between a headless dog and a ham. The timeline interface is something different and makes me curious.
Oh...and I cant help myself. If is the opposite of post@posterous pre-posterous?

Ahhh.... we can use Twitter to publicly disagree with policy positions authored by our superiors then get fired for it! Oh drat! That's not right.

The serious:

I think it could be good for PR. If patrons are on Twitter, then libraries should have a presence. As far as what Skokie library is doing, well, it's called instant messenger and it's been around for a long time. Microblogging tools have also struck me as somewhat redundant as there is older technology that does the same thing. Proud to be the curmudgeon. But I (we) can't control what technologies our communities decide to embrace, anymore that we can control books they deem popular. We have to be responsive.
