Hello, This Is Your Library Record (RSS)

May 11, 2007

Taminsea (Flickr)Our favorite acronym made another appearance on the library web site today. RSS is now in your record. What will we feed next?

Now, when you access your library account online, you will notice a feature called ‘My Record Feeds.’ No, your library record is not hungry. It does want to alert you in your news aggregator when a) you have holds ready b) your books are overdue or c) it is hungry.

Don’t worry, your feeds are private and they will not display your name, library card number, or material titles. It will send you messages such as, “Materials ready for pickup on hold shelf,” “Better get those books back, they’re overdue” or “I’m hungry, order me a pizza.”

If you are new to RSS, please take a look at the RSS Feeds tutorials for a complete overview of the topic. What do you think? (comments welcome)
